October -November ... Tough months in the Outdoors for MOI
Well....been out fishing and hunting a few times with not much to show. From Oct-Nov I've been out deer hunting 6 times and haven't shot a deer....the first time out I had 8 point at 12yards but the brush was too thick...I wonder if I should of powered a shot that close? Then I had another buck at 35 yards but the same deal...no clear shot. Since then I haven't saw a deer other than hanging up in my buddies garage or jumping infront of my vechile..
I've been out duck hunting twice with my boys and have had ducks around but they wouldn't decoy...I thought Robo ducks worked 100%....lmao......
Fishing wise....I've managed to catch a few meals of panfish with the family at the Lighthouse Cove and few local creeks a few times.........Darren Negri and I fished the BPS Open at Lake Simcoe. We arrived a few days early for pre-fishing and the weather was pretty bad....alot of guys stayed in there hotels while we were out. We caught one small smallmouth in 2 days of pre-fishing......we had located three main shoals that each had the potential to win with but we couldn't get them to bite.... We ended up fishing one shoal tournament day and I caught a nice whitefish on the first drift....after that we got nothing...few guys around us managed to figure out the bite and scored bigtime with some giant bronzebacks(27+ pounds worth...)....I'm excited to get after it next year with what we know now.....
I managed to get my hands on the 12 gauge single shot shotgun I used when I was 15....I did a little sprucing up of it and retired it above my fireplace....
Anyhow...not too much going on....fishing shows are coming up and I'm scheduled for the first week of the Novi show so far with more to come....I'll post later IF anything comes up
August 22nd
I tried to put on a bass tournament at the Lighthouse Cove....but only one guy showed-Darren Negri. The weather was a little nasty ...driving rain and wind for the first three hours so didn't really expect many to show honestly. We ended up doing the tournament Ultimate Match fishing style..it was a hoot....we pretty much stayed in the canals..flipping and the throwing spinnerbaits mostly. Darren ended up getting his limit throwing a weightless senko...I ended up weighing 9 pounds and himself 7 pounds for 5 fish....it was a blast and next year we are most definitly doing it again...maybe up the pot??????....
Sept
This month I have been shooting a little trap and shooting my bow getting ready for the fall hunting season....clearing some spots on the pond for shooting woodies and such. I got a few times this month with a few different freinds and junk fishing in the Thames River with the family..catfish, sheephead, silverbass, white perch ...etc......Gary Cowan and I went out smallie fishing around wapole for the afternoon.....we didn't get into to many but the ones we did were fun in 1' of water........few around three pounds. Darren Negri and I headed out last week fishing for a few hours mid-day....the smallie bite was slow for us....one 3 pounder out deep 18' and few short fish in the 12' range....one bonus sheephead on a crankbait...lol....we then went largemouth fishing for the last few hours and ended up picking up a few...one good one....this is a pic..sorry about the photo..must of been something on the lense?.....
...Also I found out that Darren and I got into the BPS Open on Lake Simcoe the 24th of Oct.....I'm very excited to go and try someplace new....who know's...we many just "stumble"on something...Anyhow the Duck Opener is this weekend and I'll be psoting an update next week on any success......my family loves shooting woodies and they make excellent table fair.
Jeff and I fished TBBA at Rondeau and finished 28 place with 11.4 . 63 teams turned out
It was a tough event and I thought we would of done better than we did.....we caught fish mostly flipping a gambler ugly otter and mud-critter.
The following weekend two of my sons Andrew, Spencer and I fished the AYA tournament at Deerbrook, all the kids that participated had a great time.....the day was delayed for a few hours because of the weather but most caught fish. We ended up off pike creek in 6' of water ..the kids caught a tonne of fish and we lost out by 1 pound to Josh Myers and his crew with 15 pounds for first place and a little Lund boat as a prize......
Aug 1st my friend Darren Nergri gave me a call about fishing Lakeshore BassAnglers....I was hestitant but ended up fishing and I was glad I did...we didn't catch alot but we got some nice ones for 2nd place at 21.7 and lost big fish by .10 ounces..... at 5.60, congrats to Jeff and Josh with 21.9 and big fish/
My wife and I took the two youngest in the big brother and sister derby at Mictehlls Bay Aug 15th ...they caught gills, rock bass and a few largies......we had a great time and they even got a prize after....thanks to all that donated gifts/prizes for the event.
Went pre-fishing with my freind Marty for the TBBA event in Sarnia he was doing with his girlfreind.....we didn't catch much but I picked a 5.5# on a tube in 40'....the picture is in my gallery.....
.......oh....I forgot to mention in there somewhere I sold my rig...I will pick up another one if I go back to work.....right now $$ is tight..
