Well....It's June 30th 2009 today and this weekend will be my third event this year. This weekend is TBBA first event at Rondeau Bay and I love fishing the bay for largemouths....last year we didn't have much success with no pre-fish but in years past we have finished second twice ... first once and once fourth.....this past weekend Jeff and myself won the Ed Broadwood Memorial Opening day event at Mitchells Bay with over 22 pounds. It was a great day ..not many bites but the right ones early on and they all got in the boat.....kudos to Gibby for putting 3 over 4pounds in the first hour in the boat. Dropshots and tubes produced all our fish.
Two weeks ago Derek Meloche and I fished the NBAA open in Detroit and finished in the top 20 a quarter pound from the last money position. We didn't expect much with no pre-fish but with the thunderstorms and rain I figured it would be a tough bite...we had one fish that weeighed 1.5 pounds and it hurt our final weight....
Anyhow....it was a busy spring.....but we did manage to put a few wood duck boxes in, go in a few trap shoots , catch some nice gills from middlegrounds over a week period for the freezer.....as well as a few other outdoor activities.
Hoping to get in some pre-fish this week some-time but will wait and see.....I've joined the ranks of un-employed with my place of work being shut down....and have to be very $$$ concious.....later
I ended meeting my buddy Jeff at Mitchells Bay Marnia trying to build off what I had found late friday.....after drilling 12-16 holes it was obvious that the bite that I had left was nowhere to be found....Jeff picked up three keepers and myself one...in 2 hours. Talked with another guy that had two....pretty sloooowwwwww. I had got a few good reports of perch catches in Legues Bay so we quickly packed up and went there. It was very busy around 100-150 fisherman.....I'm glad we made the move though cause we ended up getting a nice feed of yellow bellies by jumping from white ice to white ice in 3.5' with ken hooks and pink ratso's........seemed to me they liked the noise of the auger....the bite died off around 2:30 so we headed in and found that most anglers had done decent....I'll be heading out this friday for some more action...looks like 50 degree plus temps for four days which could spell trouble for the ice.....I'll report my findings.
With it being the last day of bunny hunting me and the oldest headed to some of my "better" spots. After the first spot and working the scrub for two hours we had only had one chance and missed. Needing a little pick me up we stopped at a diner for a full breakfest and discussed our next spot in Wheatly. I have shot alot of rabbits there in the past couple years approx 20-30....I think it was the day .....I had one chance and missed.....it was a very slow day. For the season I ended up with 1 x-large jack and 7 cottontails on 4 hunts....not a great year by any means but enough rabbit for a few meals through the year.........tommorrow going back for the gills.....
